Northstar IT is a Sussex based IT support company that offers virtual IT helpdesk services to small-medium sized businesses. The brainchild of Christian (MD), Northstar is a unique and friendly team who’s can-do attitude drives them to go the extra mile to solve their clients IT problems. As Christian himself says “We’re a can-do company: there is always a solution, but sometimes you have to go where no other IT company will go to make it happen!”
Northstar came to us with the problem of their brand and website was outdated and didn’t truly represent who they are as a company. After a few discovery meetings (and plenty of coffee) to find out how they wanted to present themselves online, we were able to produce the brand and identity. A process and result described by Christian as “after the initial idea they listened and had a real mental wrap around what I wanted to achieve”.

Northstar comes with such a big personality and a true passion for what they do; this was a key part of the brand and design process for us, as we wanted to translate that passion and voice online. This is shown by the use of Star Trek themed characters and the style in both the website and branding across all their platforms.
Once we established the voice of the company and the branding style that they loved, we could apply it to a new version of their website. It was important to include the brand design as much as possible here, to help Northstar stand out online in the sea of bland and boring IT company websites. This meant bespoke work throughout; even down to the social media icons and Twitter feed, everything was carefully considered to guarantee we utilised every opportunity to give the website the real Northstar feel.
The Madison team enjoyed this project because it gave us all the opportunity to flex a full range of skills; from branding and bringing to live Northstar’s tone of voice, to the bespoke website development. It’s worth highlighting too the use of Harvey, Christians wonderful dog and Client Hospitality Manager, as a loading icon for the website and an iconic part of the marketing material used by Northstar.
The new version of the website meant a real upgrade; including an SSL, the ability for their clients to download resources from the website and a CMS that the entire crew of Northstar can use to edit the website content.
